Carports for Dubbo and the Orana.
Get the car, the ute, the caravan or the boat out of the Central West sun, frost and hail. Freestanding or attached, flat or gable roof, standard or tall caravan clearance. Supplied and erected, engineered for Region A wind and built to last.
The quickest way to covered parking.
A carport is the most affordable way to protect a vehicle, and in Dubbo's climate that protection is worth it: summer sun that bakes a dashboard, winter frosts on the windscreen, and the odd serious hail storm. Where a garage locks things away, a carport simply keeps the weather off, which is all most second cars, caravans and boats need.
Single and double carports.
A single (around 6m x 3m) covers one car on a town block. A double (6m x 6m) covers two side by side, or one car and a trailer. Both can run a flat skillion roof for a clean modern look or a gable roof to match a pitched house roof, in your choice of Colorbond colour.
Attached carports.
Running a carport off the eave of the house, or off an existing garage or shed wall, is the most cost-effective option because it shares a structure on one side. We flash it into the existing roof so it stays watertight and match the colour and pitch so it looks original. This is a popular add to a garage for the second car or the van.
Caravan, RV and boat carports.
The tall ones. An A-frame caravan, a 4WD with a roof rack, a horse float or a boat on a trailer needs a 3.0m to 3.6m clearance and the length to cover the drawbar. We size the height and the span around the actual dimensions of your rig, and brace it for the wind, because a tall open carport on a cleared block is the one that gets tested in a gust.
The bit that stops a carport blowing over.
A carport is a light, open structure, which makes the footings and bracing the most important part of the build, not the least. We set the posts into footings sized for the soil class and the wind exposure under AS 1170.2 Region A, so the carport stays put when a westerly comes through off the plains. The cheap carports that end up in the neighbour's yard after a storm are the ones with undersized footings and no proper bracing.
Most freestanding carports behind the building line can go through as exempt development in the Dubbo Regional area if they stay within the size and setback limits. A carport in front of the house, attached, oversized or in a heritage street needs approval, and we confirm that before quoting. See the shed permits guide for the detail and the shed cost guide for the numbers.
A double plus caravan carport in Narromine.
A 6m x 6m double carport at standard height alongside a 7m x 4m caravan carport at 3.6m clearance, off the side of an existing garage in Narromine, comes to roughly $16,000 to $26,000 supplied and erected in 2026 if there is already a slab to build on. Add a new slab for the caravan bay and you are near $22,000 to $33,000. You get two cars and the van under cover, all flashed into the garage so it looks like it was always there. The quote itemises the frame, the roofing, the footings and any slab work.

Common carport questions.
How much does a carport cost in Dubbo?
As a 2026 guide: a single carport (around 6m x 3m) is roughly $4,500 to $9,000 supplied and erected; a double (6m x 6m) sits around $8,000 to $15,000; a tall caravan or RV carport (6m x 4m at a 3.6m height) runs $12,000 to $22,000. An existing concrete pad keeps the cost down; a new slab adds $4,000 to $9,000.
Do I need council approval for a carport in Dubbo?
A freestanding carport behind the building line can often be approved as exempt development if it stays under the floor-area and height limits in the NSW Codes SEPP and meets the boundary setbacks. A carport in front of the building line, attached, oversized or in a heritage area generally needs a complying development certificate or a development application.
Can a carport be attached to the house or a shed?
Yes. An attached carport that runs off the eave of the house or off the wall of an existing garage or shed is one of the most cost-effective ways to get covered parking. We flash it into the existing roof properly so it does not leak, and match the Colorbond colour and roof pitch so it reads as part of the original building.
What size carport do I need for a caravan or boat?
A standard car or ute carport at 2.4m to 2.7m clearance will not fit an A-frame caravan, a tall boat on a trailer or a 4WD with a roof rack. For those you want a 3.0m to 3.6m clearance and enough length to cover the drawbar, typically 7m to 9m long. Tell us the dimensions and we size the height and span accordingly.
